I know they are pivoting to health care(?!) but there is still nothing like Midjourney for making strange and atmospheric images and short animations in ways no other AI image generator can do. Here are some strange cities I made with similar prompts but very different styles.

  • Feature quality and AI output dominated praise, but the same AI quality theme also drove the largest share of complaints, showing genuinely split opinion on output consistency.
  • Sentiment trended gradually downward across the final weeks of the window after an early peak, with higher discussion volume appearing to pull scores slightly lower.
  • Cultural and ethical friction around labeling AI-generated work as art or creative output was a recurring and heated thread in public conversation.
  • Privacy concerns and competitor comparisons each surfaced as notable complaint themes, suggesting dissatisfaction extends beyond the product itself to how it fits into a broader landscape.

Discussion around Midjourney over the past four weeks has been split between genuine enthusiasm for its generative output and a persistent undercurrent of ethical and creative skepticism. The praise side was substantial, with feature quality and overall AI output drawing the most positive mentions by a wide margin, suggesting that commenters who engage with the tool on its own terms tend to find real value in it. A smaller but notable share of positive mentions touched on interface and ease of use, pointing to a segment of the audience that appreciates the accessibility of the product.

The sentiment trajectory tells a more complicated story. The window opened at a relatively confident score before dropping sharply the following week, then recovering partially, and settling into a slow, gradual slide across the final several weeks. The pattern suggests an early burst of enthusiasm that could not sustain itself as conversation volume grew considerably in the back half of the period. Higher mention counts in the later weeks appeared to coincide with slightly softer sentiment, which often signals that a wider and more skeptical audience was joining the conversation.

Thematic tensions were sharpest around AI quality, which appeared on both the praise and complaint lists, indicating that opinion on output consistency was genuinely divided rather than uniformly positive or negative. Competitor comparisons and privacy concerns each attracted a meaningful share of complaint mentions, and several sample mentions framed the product less as a creative tool and more as a symbol of broader anxieties about AI-generated content displacing human work.

The sample mentions reinforced this divide clearly. Some commenters shared specific prompts and outputs with apparent enthusiasm, while others expressed frustration at how the product is positioned culturally, with several pushing back on the framing of its output as art at all. Discussion suggested that skepticism was not always about the tool itself but about the norms forming around its use, particularly around stock imagery and credited creative work.
